2016 SOAI RALLY
If you were not able to attend the rally this year, you missed a great rally in Abbeville, Louisiana. We look forward to getting together with good friends each year. This year was no exceptions.
Everyone in attendance at Betty’s RV Park had a great time and enjoyed the Cajun hospitality. Betty cooked homemade chicken gumbo for all of us that was outstanding. Those in attendance received a broad view of the Cajun culture and history of the Cajun people. We were able to get up-close and personal with a few alligators in the swamp and shockingly no mosquitos. The Tabasco Factory was interesting, learning how tabasco sauce is made. Sampling tabasco flavored ice cream and tabasco flavored coke is a very unique experience you just have to try. We even learned how to cook jambalaya and crackling’s from some true Cajuns. Miss Betty arranged for us to visit a friend of hers that owns a sugar plantation, so we could see how sugar was being harvested. The Coast Guard Cutter ‘The Pelikin’ was in port, so we were able to take a tour of the ship. Very impressive! If you are looking to get a job on an oil rig, you might want to check out ‘Mr. Charlie’, a training facility. We sure learned a lot while we were there. Don’t think that job is for me!
We were joined by Robbye Brown, Sportchassis National Sales Coordinator, who briefed us about the diversifications taking place at Sportchassis. The future of Sportchassis looks bright. Robbye said the factory is looking forward to having SOAI there next year. Sportchassis donated several items for this year’s rally, including some fantastic door prizes: the chairs were won by Marvin/Shirley Oetjen, and Bill/Betty Ryan. Patrick/Agnes Johnson are the proud owners of that Sportchassis cooler. They also provided mugs to all attendees with the rally imprinted on them. [see letterhead at top of page]
Everyone gathered at Betty’s at 4:30 p.m. for happy hour, where the day’s activities were discussed and the evening activities were planned. As always, the evening ice cream and playing of games was a big hit.
For those of you, who could not attend this year, you missed a good time.
All officers up for re-election were elected: President, Randy Palmer; Secretary, Sue Steverson; Member Representative #1, Ron Franceour.
So sorry it has taken this long to inform everyone about this year rally in Abbeville, Louisiana, but Jeri and I spent six days in Oklahoma planning the 2017 rally in Clinton.
Our trip to Clinton was very productive with the help of Robbye Brown, Sportchassis National Sales Coordinator, and Chris Brinkley, Sportchassis Marketing Director. For those of you that have been to a rally at Clinton, the 2017 rally will be a new experience.
The factory has a lot of new features. We have a lot of new and different things planned already. Even the Route 66 museum has been remodeled and new exhibits added. Please hold the dates of September 24, 2017 thru October 1, 2017 open for this rally. Jeri and I believe that you will not be disappointed with this rally. An agenda for the rally will be sent to all members as soon as items are finalized
The Sportchassis factory will be in operation for our tour, but has requested that appointments for paint, welding, installation of rear heating/air, and other major repairs be scheduled at least 90 days in advance (no later than 6/24/2017). Appointments for installation of after-market accessories and add-ons be made no later than 7/24/2017. A complete list of available accessories with prices will be forthcoming in future newsletters, as well as all contact information necessary.
PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THE 2017 RALLY
